Ethically Sourced Wool
Our Baby Alpaca Wool is sourced from ethical farms and family herders who have been living in harmony with the land and their animals for generations and treat them both with care and respect.
Baby alpaca does not involve harming baby animals. The term refers to the finest first shear of the alpaca’s natural life cycle, taken once the animal is mature enough, without injury or pain. Alpacas are gently sheared by experienced hands once a year, a strategically timed process that keeps them cool in the hot season and protects their health.
The alpacas roam freely on vast lands in the Andean Mountains, grazing naturally across open landscapes. They live in harmony with the ecosystem and have one of the lightest environmental footprints of any herd animal. Their padded feet do not damage soil and they nibble grass without uprooting it, allowing the earth to easily regenerate. This makes alpaca wool one of the most sustainable fibres in the world.
We are also intentional about what happens after the shearing. Our shepherds and artisans use organic natural dyes, plant based processes and water conscious methods to colour the wool. We are committed to using the best sustainable practices available to our organization, every step of the way, and we are consistently researching in order to integrate better practices in our collections as we expand our production.
Waste in our production is minimal. Alpaca fibres are highly versatile and we design patterns that maximize fabric use. Smaller offcuts are repurposed for accessories, samples, and other local reuse. Our goal is to move toward a near zero waste model as we continue refining our processes.
In addition to the wool, the materials used in the delivery process are sustainable, reusable and compostable, and the carbon footprint of global shipping is over-compensated in local tree planting in the Sacred Valley.
Each of our ponchos and mantles carry the integrity of our brand values, and the honour we hold for the peoples, animals and lands where we live.
